You could either fine tune the software such as Windows or upgrade the Hardware. Click here for the software ideas: http://www.bobfishersays.com/computers/computer-speed-improvement-tips-techniques.html
Hardware
Tip 1) Improve the RAM or Memory, purchase more memory and insert it into the computer. Memory comes in different sizes and most standard computers either have 2 or 4 slots. You need to make sure you purchase compatabile memory. As it comes in different types and speeds. A fater memory would be best to speed up the computer.
Tip 2) Upgrade the Hard Disk speed. Standard hard disk speeds in 2008 are 7200 RPM. This is the speed at which the hard disk moves inside. You can currently get up to 15000 RPM.
Tip 3) Upgrade the processor. There are currently 3 types of processors. Intel Pentinum / Intel Celeron or AMD. within each of these there are different speeds and types. Intel Pentium are the most powerfull for Games and Video/Sound editing but are more expensive. Celeron and AMD are cheaper. If you require heavy useage and speed AMD are not afficently and can crash at high pressure. Depending on your PC you will be able to install or upgrade a different type. A way of finding out is to look at the mother board inside the computer and find a manufacture and model written on it. Put this into Google and find out the make and type to find out what processor you could have inside the computer.
Tip 4) Software is a major part of the slowness of a computer. Check out our software page for more software tips: http://www.bobfishersays.com/computers/computer-speed-improvement-tips-techniques
